Toyota guide to forklift safety

Zürich, Switzerland: Toyota Material Handling UK has launched a Forklift Safety Guide as part of its year of safety ‘Taking Care with Toyota’.  The free safety resources are available online and address key areas of forklift safety.

Statistics by the HSE show that on average, 60 people are killed every year in workplace transport accidents and a further 2000 will suffer serious injuries. Forklift trucks are involved in nearly a quarter of these incidents.

The new Forklift Safety Guide aims to address key areas of forklift safety, reducing risk and helping to drive down costs in operation.

Marc Paxford, operator training manager, says: “The new guide is a fantastic resource to have available to managers and operators, it includes vital information on law and legislation, advice on operator training, tips on accident prevention, safety check lists and a basic reminder guide to stacking with both a forklift and a reach truck.”

Safety has always been a priority at Toyota, products have been developed with safety features built in and this year the safety campaign, ‘Taking Care with Toyota’ has led to the development of several free resources aimed at promoting safety in the workplace.

Tony Wallis, operations director says: “Toyota has always positioned itself as a provider of safe products and services, but we believe promoting safety in the workplace goes beyond providing our customers with the safest trucks, it also requires that we demonstrate to companies the benefits of training their people and putting processes in place to create a culture of safety, this is where the Forklift Safety Guide comes in”.

“In the challenging economic climate, it has become more important for companies to focus on safety, not only to protect their workers, but also to reduce costs relating to injury and damage. As a leader in the industry, we are committed to giving people as much support as we can to work in a safe manner.”
