Willenhall, West Midlands: A F Blakemore & Sons has designed its first refrigerated double-decker short trailers.
The refrigerated trailer design is expected to be the standard for the future of an expanding, urban-friendly double-decker fleet operated by AF Blakemore, working with the Spar group and other wholesale distribution sectors.
Marshall Fleet Solutions provided three Thermo King SLX 300 refrigeration units as part of the first trailer order. The SLX 300 is a single temperature unit selected because of its ability to maintain uniform temperature distribution. The unit overcomes issues with damage to goods through top-freezing becuase it air through the load, says Andrew Howells, managing director, Marshall Fleet Solutions.
“The remit for the design of this trailer was that it not only maximised load, but that the load was to be fully protected and efficient with reduced fuel consumption. Working with A F Blakemore and its suppliers, this eco-friendly double-decker design looks towards a standardisation for the future and has already been nominated for an industry award,” he said.
