Leeds, UK: Asda has ordered 187 Scania trucks: 120 for the Asda retail distribution fleet, 55 for its primary network and 12 for its petroleum fleet.
The retail distribution fleet includes 42 vehicles supplied with Scania’s Ecolution programme. This bespoke service helps operators achieve better economy and efficiency from their fleets and includes driver training, maintenance and specification.
The 120 trucks for the Asda retail fleet are a mix of 420 horsepower 4×2 and 6×2/2 pusher-axle models with Scania G sleeper-cabs. The trucks will be used on store replenishment services with each truck covering an anticipated 120,000 miles per annum. The 55 primary network trucks are also a mix of G sleeper-cabbed 420 horsepower 4x2s and 6×2/2s. Operated by NFT on behalf of Asda, these vehicles will each cover 200,000 miles annually running between NFT’s three and Adsa’s eight chilled distribution centres.
John Rogerson, fleet contracts manager, Asda says Scania and Asda have a long-standing relationship: “As a key supplier whose operations are integrated into many of our activities – including, for example, tanker support and trailer maintenance – we rely upon Scania to deliver the levels of service and quality our customers expect and demand of us.
“With regard to operating economy, Scania has a well-proven record with us which we are now looking to take to the next level by way of the innovative Ecolution by Scania programme – and on that, the early indications are excellent, with our 42 new Ecolution by Scania vehicles returning a significant fuel advantage compared to our existing fleet.”
