Brakes sell Browns Foodservice

London, UK: Brakes Groups has sold meat wholesaler, Browns Foodservice to Ensors Gloucestershire.  Brakes acquired Warwickshire based Browns in 2010.

Brakes Group chief financial officer, Phil Wieland said the businesses will continue to work together:  “Our business relationship will continue, as Browns deliveries to customers are carried out on Brakes Group vehicles and this arrangement will continue following the sale through an ongoing distribution agreement.”

Browns Foodservice, which was founded in 1983 and offers fresh meat, game and poultry to caterers, had a turnover of £14.8m in its last audited accounts for the year ended 31 December 2011.

Ensors is a family-owned and run company that moved into a new, purpose built plant last December. Its foodservice, retail packing, sausage making and bacon curing arm is already operating from the new plant with an abattoir due to come on stream within the next few months.
