Brakes wins gold at Green Apple Awards

Food service wholesaler Brakes beat off competition from the Green Earth Appeal and London Clubs International to win gold in the food and drink category at the Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice.

The award came in recognition of the Brakes Group partnership with UK food charity FareShare. Jim Trower, director of operations at FareShare, said: “By taking surplus food from Brakes and delivering it out to a network of local charities, we provide a vital lifeline for those who are otherwise unable to access healthy food.’

The Green Apple Awards – now in their 18th year – are the longest-running environmental awards in the world. Open to any organisation, they recognise and reward companies, councils and international corporations that have made a positive impact on the environment, or enabling initiatives to improve sustainability.
