C R England takes gas-powered Kenworth trucks

Salt Lake City, US: C R England Dedicated, a division of temperature-controlled carrier C R England, is to operate new Kenworth T800 tandem-axle day cab tractors powered by Cummins Westport GX 15-litre liquefied natural gas engines.

C R England Dedicated will operate the trucks on existing routes between Ontario, California, and Las Vegas. The LNG-powered tractors are expected to go into service this summer. Paccar Leasing supplied the new vehicles on full-service lease agreements.

Kirk Freimuth, vice president of C R England Dedicated says: “C R England Dedicated is raising the bar on what it means to be a ‘green’ carrier.”

“In addition to deploying new 2010 emissions technology, the latest aerodynamic equipment and telematics solutions to reduce fuel consumption and miles travelled, we made a conscious decision to further our environmental stewardship with natural gas-powered equipment. All of these initiatives will reduce our carbon footprint, improve air quality and reduce diesel fuel consumption in our operations,” he says.

Kenworth offers the T440 and W900S LNG-powered and compressed natural gas-powered models, in addition to the T800 LNG model. The company also offers other aerodynamic models such as the T660 and the T700. The 15-litre 450hp (335kw) Westport GX engine uses 5% diesel and 95% LNG, which the company says reduces NOx by more than 33% and has 20% less greenhouse gas emissions.
