Cat chills out on journey from Canada to North Carolina

Edneyville, NC, US:  A cat has been named “Joe Cool” after surviving a journey in a refrigerated freight truck from Canada to Mills River, Edneyville.

The cat escaped when workers at plant and flower supplier Van Wingerden unloaded the truck’s cargo – but instead of running off somewhere warm, Joe Cool headed off to the company’s warehouse, set at 3˚C (38˚F).

After a week of hunting, staff managed to catch the cat.  He was taken to a local rescue centre where he was placed in quarantine.

“His health is fine and he is eating and drinking well,” said Van Wingerden’s director of operations, Nicole Carper.  “He’s been through a lot and needs time to unwind, relax and get used to the environment.”
