Tunbridge Wells, UK: Commercial vehicle operators must face the challenge of reducing carbon emissions from transport, says the Freight Transport Association.
It is organising the Logistics Carbon Reduction Conference, on Tuesday 29 May, that examines the contribution that the freight industry can make to national greenhouse gas reduction targets, while giving operators an increased competitive edge, an enhanced image with customers and greater staff engagement.
The conference is sponsored by Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme partner Bridgestone Tyres, and by Map&guide and the keynote address is by Professor Alan McKinnon of Kühne Logistics University in Hamburg.
Delegates will hear about the latest carbon reduction practices undertaken by operators linked to burning less fuels, using low carbon fuels, reducing empty running and using rail and short sea services in supply chain.
Subjects covered include:
- The role of freight in the decarbonisation of the transport sector
- Opportunities to reduce carbon emissions by freight modal split
- The impact of climate change on the EU’s carbon agenda
- ‘White vehicles’ – sharing resources between customers and operators
- Managing drivers and reducing mileage
- Evaluating and utilising alternative fuels and low carbon technologies
