French multi-modal operators get innovation prize

Paris, France: Ferrero, Marfret and Stef have been recognised with an Innovation Award
for the first, cold-barge transport in France.

This prize was awarded at the International Week of Transport and Logistics for the first refrigerated-barge transport of manufactured food. Vincent Saurel, manager of the Marfret site in Rouen, David Adoutte, Ferrero downstream supply chain manager for France and Benelux, Francis Lemor, chairman of Stef and Bernard Jolivet, vice-Chairman of Stef received the trophy.

Ferrero, Marfret and Stef launched the ooperation in combined river-road transport between Rouen and Paris in December last year for the 2011 chocolate Christmas season. For the first time in France, manufactured mass-market food, including Nutella, Mon Chéri, Kinder, Ferrero Rocher food brands, were ferried on a water lane under temperature-controlled conditions.

Ferrero France plans to use five containers a week on the Rouen to Genneviliers river lane operated by Voies Navigable de France network. This will mean 30% less CO2 emissions from 260 truck loads taken off the road.
