Grocontinental driver clocks four million miles

Whitchurch, UK: Truck driver Brian Evans has clocked up four million miles driving in Europe for Grocontinental. The 60-year-old, who plans to continue driving for the company, has been recognised for his loyalty during his 40-year career with Grocontinental.

Evans was presented with a commemorative watch, a VIP trip to the Daf factory in Preston, and a book featuring photographs of his career. He joined the company on 5 February 1973 at the age of 20 and said he had witnessed unprecedented changes in the transport industry along the way.

“I’ve always had the view that you go with the flow, or get out,” he says.

He joined the company when his father approached owner Ray Grocott. “I started as a yard lad and then trained to be a driver when I was 21.

Ray Grocott, chairman, Grocontinental, says: “Brian’s record is to be massively applauded and respected. Forty years working for one company is a rare achievement these days. We are very proud of him and very appreciative of his dedication, reliability and the relationships he has built up with our customers.

“He is one of the industry’s characters and we look forward to him being with us for many years to come.”
