Boston, Lincolnshire, UK: HS Logistics has added two 7.5-tonne Daf LF 45.180 fridge trucks to its ‘panic delivery fleet’.
The new trucks, supplied on contract hire with Ryder, are fitted with sleeper cabs and custom-designed single compartment Paneltech bodies with Carrier Xarios direct drive fridges.
“We operate a large and diverse fleet of trucks, ranging from 44t artics through to 3.5t vans, specialising in nationwide chilled and refrigerated transport.
“Many of these are already being sourced from Ryder, so it seemed logical to work with Ryder on the specification of these two specialised trucks,” says Brian Hilton, transport director, HS Logistics.
“The new trucks, which were designed to carry up to 7 pallets, are used primarily to facilitate the delivery of last minute orders and missed loads that cannot be economically handled by larger trucks. With all large supermarket chains and distribution hubs operating on a just-in-time basis, our special 7.5 tonne fridge trucks are ideal for handling panic deliveries.”
Phil Ashton, Ryder’s head of area sales north, comments, “We worked in partnership with HS Logistics to engineer the trucks to meet the customer’s specific operational requirements. Sleeper cabs were specified as the new trucks could be operating anywhere from Scotland down to the tip of Cornwall. To help increase efficiency, we installed a unique lightweight air suspension package to allow the loading deck to be raised from its normal travelling position to the standard height of loading docks when making deliveries.”
