New Delhi, India: IAI Cold Chain Expo 2012 will focus on the rapidly growing Indian cold chain industry. The 6th IAI Expo in December 2011 drew more than 13000 visitors and more than 170 exhibitors over 3 days.
“It is a global platform that connects the world to the Indian Cold Chain Industry, a sector growing at an encouraging rate of 20-25 percent in India. The show focuses on the farm to fork strategy for each segment,” says the organisers.
India one of the most attractive destinations for business and investment. India has 16% of the world’s population and its $1.22bn economy is the fourth largest in the world with growing GDP at 8% and per capita income at 17.3%.
India is the world’s largest milk producer, second largest fruit and vegetable producer, third largest grain producer third largest fish producer. But despite these huge volumes, India has a very limited integrated cold-chain infrastructure, with cold store capacity of 23.6m tonnes; 80% of which is used only for potatoes.
About 35-40% of fruits and vegetables and nearly 10% of food grains in India are wasted annually due to lack of temperature controlled storage and transport. As much as 20-40% of food grown in India spoils before reaching consumers.
