Jubilee weekend to disrupt HGV routes

London, UK: Hauliers operating in London over the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend are being advised to check that planned routes will not be affected by closures and diversions caused by the Jubilee celebrations.

With roads affected on both sides of the Thames stretching from Tower Bridge to Battersea Bridge and more than 6,000 temporary road closures caused by community street parties, it is vital for hauliers to check their routes before setting out.

“The Diamond Jubilee is a great celebration but it is going to cause real problems for HGV Operators who need to deliver in London over the bank holiday weekend, particularly as they still have to stay compliant with night-time and weekend delivery regulations,” said Freddie Talberg, chief executiove of  freight mapping and routing specialists, PIE.

To help hauliers manage during this period, PIE have included all the restrictions and closed roads in the London Lorry Route Approver tool, which allows users to automatically generate  compliant routes in and around London, to either avoid the disruption or route effectively across Central London.

The system also generates an automatic approval with London Councils enabling vehicles to use that route, something which many hauliers don’t realise they need to do.

“With the Jubilee, the Olympic and Paralympic Games plus the regular events London hosts annually, we’re constantly updating the data in the London Lorry Route Approver to make sure hauliers can carry on with their everyday activity and stay compliant with night-time and weekend delivery rules, no matter what restrictions are in place,” Talberg says.
