Mark Haslam takes on logistics for Yearsley Group

Manchester, UK: Yearsley Group has appointed Mark Haslam as head of its logistics. He will oversee operations for the company’s 12 cold stores and 300 vehicle temperature-controlled fleet.

Haslam was formerly managing director for the UK transport operations of Suttons Group and before that worked for Wincanton and TDG.

He will implement Yearsley’s strategy to increase efficiency by improving consolidation and cutting waste delivery miles says managing director, Harry Yearsley.

One of first tasks is to implement a new fleet management system that will provide additional control over the response time and flexibility of collections and deliveries. This will enable managers to better map journeys, ensuring more outbound deliveries link with inbound collections, thereby reducing both fuel usage and carbon emissions, Yearsley says.

The Yearsley Group has a turnover of £130m (US$213m) operating two divisions for food sales and distribution. The cold storage and distribution division provides logistics services from 12 UK depots with 280,000-pallet storage capacity for manufacturers and retailers in the frozen food sector. It provides three-day, next-day and just-in-time delivery options.

The food sales division wholesales frozen products to retailers and caterers and also imports products under its Belfield brand supplying private label and branded goods to retailers and manufacturers. Group customers include Heinz, Young’s and Brakes.
