Marten Transport 3Q earnings up 2.9%

Mondovi, WI, US: Marten Transport’s third-quarter net income rose 2.9%, effected by rising diesel fuel costs, a hot summer across much of the US and a slumbering national economy.

The temperature-controlled transport and logistics company said revenue increased 4.6% to $163.6m from $156.3m.

“While our earnings were negatively impacted by near-term headwinds, steadily rising diesel fuel prices, extreme heat and the persistently weak economy impacting volumes, we remain confident in our long-term strategy,” said Randolph L Marten, chairman and chief executive, in a statement announcing earnings.

For the nine months, net income increased 17.6% to $19.5m from $16.6m a year ago. Revenue increased to $472.0m from $445.3m.
