Perth, Scotland, UK; McLaughlan Transport has added another Daf XF105 to its 37-strong fleet.
The decision was based on the overall cost of buying and running the model, with an initial batch of three having covered some 600,000 kilometres and delivered 10% better kilometres per litre than the fleet average.
The latest arrival is a 6 x 2 mid-lift axle FTG model, which will run with a tri-axle Gray and Adams refrigerated trailer taking fresh produce from Scotland to the continent as far as Greece and the south of Spain. The new DAF is expected to cover around 180,000 kilometres a year.
George McLaughlan, managing director says that the XF105 is “competitive in terms of its initial price and is proving to be both fuel efficient and reliable, the latter being particularly important when moving fresh produce and working to timed delivery slots.”
McLaughlan opted for the 460 brake horsepower rating for the 12.9 litre MX engine. At 44 tonnes gross weight this gives a comfortable power to weight ratio of 10.45 bhp/tonne and with a torque output of 2300 Nm at between 1000 and 1410 rpm move-offs are made easier whatever the load or road conditions. The engine is matched to a 12-speed AS-tronic automated gearbox.
The truck has engine idle shutdown which kicks in automatically after five minutes to conserve fuel. The truck’s fuel efficiency is also helped by adjustable roof spoiler. The new truck will be maintained in McLaughlan’s own workshop with support from the supplying dealer, Lothian Daf.
