El Segunda, CA, US: Aura Systems has taken its first order from a Midwest meat packaging company for its diesel/electric refrigeration system for large trailers.
The order calls for Aura to retrofit 20 existing mechanical fridge units with its electric solution and provide 15 tractors with 18kW AuraGen generators.
Aura, which specialises in mobile power generation equipment, has developed a diesel electric truck and trailer fridge that it estimates will reduce the fuel consumption during transit from over one gallon per hour to 0.2 gallons per hour, a saving of approximately 0.8 gallons of fuel per hour.

When shorepower is available the Aura solution will allow its use; the trailer will use electricity rather than the Diesel. When the trailer is disconnected from the tractor, or during rest periods, when shorepower is not available, the diesel engine with its AuraGen system will provide the required electric power. This modified system, while still running diesel fuel, is more efficient than the standard mechanical system it says. The AuraGen system provides 480VAC 3 phase for the refrigeration unit operation.
Melvin Gagerman, chief executive, Aura says:“Our new refrigeration trailer solution provides immediate cost savings and reduction in harmful emissions to operators that have a diesel based tractor trailer system typically used for hauling foods long distances.
“This solution is another example of our strategic approach as previously announced which is to focus our business on applications that save fuel and help the environment at the same time.”
Aura Systems designs, assembles and sells the AuraGen/Viper, a patented, integrated, mobile power generator and power management system that installs in a motor vehicle and delivers AC and DC electricity for any end-user including industrial, commercial, recreational and military applications.
