Meat processing firm to set up cold chain logistics service

Beijing, China: Zhongpin, a meat and food processing company in the People’s Republic of China, has told shareholders that it will develop a cold chain logistics service that will leverage its national network of cold storage and transport facilities.

In 2010, Zhongpin ranked fourth in the world’s largest single market for pork and pork products.  In 2010, according to the US Department of Agriculture, China accounted for 49% of global production and consumption of pork, which in value terms is the second largest sector in China’s retail food market.

The statement to shareholders also said that the latest expansion meant “deploying state-of-the-art processing equipment as well as information technology-based logistics in order to improve our operational efficiency.”
