Stoke-on-Trent, UK: Michelin has launched its latest truck tyre, the X MultiWay 3D aimed primarily at regional hauliers – those operating vehicles which typically spend around 60% of time on local roads and 40% on dual carriageways and motorways.
The tyre range gets its name from the design of the tread sipes that generate grip in difficult climatic conditions. The design provides excellent traction, longevity and fuel-efficiency with outstanding safety, comfort and cost-effectiveness, says Michelin citing the results of European pre-launch trials.
The trials show increased total mileage performance by up to 15% for steer axle fitments, and up to 30% for drive axle fitments compared with Michelin XZE2+ / XDE2+.
Rolling resistance is also reduced by as much as 25%, which will drive valuable fuel and environmental savings for fleets when compared with the E2+, XDN2 Grip and MultiWay XD tyre ranges.
Michelin’s UK head of truck and earthmover marketing, Martin Covington, says the tyre range will ‘tick the box’ for hauliers looking for a single truck tyre range that can deliver necessary fleet efficiency gains in many applications.
“Both the steer and drive tyres also feature M+S (mud and snow) markings. Given the recent successive bad winters we’ve experienced in the UK and Ireland, this capability should prove to be a significant benefit for users,” says Covington.
The 315/80 R 22.5 X MultiWay 3D XZE steer axle tyre was launched in May 2011. It is being followed by the 315/70 R 22.5 X MultiWay 3D XZE and 315/70 R 22.5 XDE tyres this month with the initial launch line-up concluded with the 315/80 R 22.5 XDE tyres in July.
