New cold store for Jamaica

Christiana, Jamaica: Work has started to convert the old Colleyville yam packing warehouse, into a 650sq metre cold-store for farmers.

The US$34m project, partly funded by the Canadian International Development Agency, is due for completion in October and is part of the drive by the Ministry of Agriculture to improve productivity in the farming sector. The warehouse will serve 150 farmers handle 8,000 tonnes of produce.

A second cold storage warehouse at Hounslow in St Elizabeth is also being refurbished with assistance from the Inter-American Institute for Corporation on Agri-culture.
