Novacom Europe wins award for trailer telematics

London, UK: Novacom Europe has been awarded the Frost & Sullivan 2011 European market share leadership award for trailer telematics. Novacom Europe is a joint venture by Novacom Services and GE Equipment Services set up in 2010.

GE company, TIP Trailer Services has integrated the Novacom Europe Vwise telematics solutions into its contract maintenance services – FleetCare – covering maintenance and tyres, as well as its trailer rental service.

Bob Fast, chief executive, TIP Trailer Services, said: “The choice to form a joint venture partnership with Novacom Europe is of strategic importance to our business as provision of telematics solutions  to our customers will strengthen our overall services offering.  The recent award that Novacom Europe has received clearly supports our choice.”

Walter Verhelst, managing director, Novacom Europe, said: “Vwise by Novacom Europe is based on providing connectivity to the vehicle intelligence and enabling the customer to extract data that drives productivity, efficiency and safety, making telematics a service enabler.”

TIP offers its customers telematics where detailed information about trailer performance is transmitted digitally to the customer, “facilitating decision-making to optimise performance via most effective use of TIP’s services”, it says. “As part of its FleetCare service, TIP has integrated the Vwise vehicle diagnostics intelligence from EBS and tyre pressure monitoring. By using this intelligence, TIP provides its customers with the most efficient prognostic maintenance service in the industry.”

TIP customer, DB Schenker has used the telematics successfully. Hans Cleijsen, transport manager, Schenker in Tilburg, says, “Logistics service provider DB Schenker Logistics stands for continuous innovation and improvement. When the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment in autumn 2011 organised a contest to stimulate driving with the correct tire pressure, we were immediately enthusiastic.

“As a pilot, four trucks and trailers of DB Schenker were equipped with the Novacom Europe telematics solution, which in addition to tire pressure, also yields other very useful data. Not only whilst driving it is possible to monitor tire pressure, but also when stopped.

“Driving with the correct tire pressure has a positive effect on the environment and has significantly reduced the number of breakdowns in our fleet, resulting in reduced road congestion and CO2 emissions. This fits perfectly with DB Schenker’s ‘green logistics’ policy, to avoid, reduce and offset environmental taxes.”

“Novacom Europe does not merely compete with other vendors in the European trailer telematics market, instead it sets a benchmark by which the market is influenced, both in terms of technology and effectiveness,” said Frost & Sullivan Senior Research Analyst Niranjan Manohar.

“This distinction has helped the company become the market share leader, serving approximately 20 – 22% of trailer telematics subscribers in Europe.”
