Orbcomm signs Taiwanese co-operation agreement

Fort Lee, NJ, US: Satellite data communications company Orbcomm is to expand services and develop new products with global reach in partnership with Taiwanese companies.

Orbcomm has signed a memorandum of understanding with Taiwan’s Council for Economic Planning and Development to enter the Taiwan market through partnership with local telecommunications and shipping companies.

Orbcomm will expand its satellite-based Automatic Identification System service and those for the refrigerated transport market from recently acquired StarTrak.

Taiwan companies have approached Orbcomm for joint development of multi-mode hardware solutions that could include integrating GSM, Zigbee, RFID, and other technologies into an Orbcomm-enabled device to provide a global solution for customers.

Orbcomm sees potential to grow its business by establishing close partnerships with local Taiwanese companies within the maritime and shipping industry, says Orbcomm chief executive, Marc Eisenberg.
