Raby, Wirral, UK: PDQ Specialist Courier Services claims to have cut fuel costs by using smaller vehicles with the help of units supplied by Swindon-based DBS Refrigeration Engineering.
Brian Brennan, managing director of PDQ Specialist Courier Services, whose customers include UK pharmaceutical manufacturers and research establishments says: “We operate a fleet of dual-temperature vehicles, however with the dramatic fuel increases we have experienced over the last few years we have been actively looking at ways of cutting our fuel costs by using smaller vehicles.
“DBS have enabled us to do this by installing their units set at freeze in our small car-derived vans, while still running the existing van fridge unit at chill, therefore giving us a dual-temperature vehicle that would have been impossible to source before DBS came along.
“These units are extremely tough and stand up to the day-to-day rigors of moving from vehicle to vehicle. The DBS unit also works perfectly with our remote temperature monitoring and alarm systems, enabling our operations department and customers to view temperatures in real time”.
David Brett, director at DBS, says: “Our systems will never replace the fully refrigerated vehicle for certain applications, however they do provide a highly economic solution for introducing very stable, additional temperature-controlled environments either within a vehicle that for example, is already converted for a single temperature, or even for consignments inside a standard ambient van.”
