Prepare for disruption

Wokingham, Berkshire:  Supply chain consultancy, Total Logistics, has developed an online tool to help businesses assess their supply chain readiness for the Olympic Games and the other major public events occurring this summer.

The free assessment tool takes ten minutes to complete and provides businesses with recommendations on areas such as supply chain performance, demand planning, transport scheduling as well as resourcing issues and communications with suppliers and customers.

The readiness assessment tool has been modelled by supply chain consultants from Total Logistics to help companies – be they distributors, FMCG manufacturers, retailers or any organisation delivering or collecting goods in any volume – to ensure this summer’s major events do not harm their normal business operations. The tool comprises a series of multiple choice questions that produce a report card on each organisation’s preparedness for these events.

Stuart Hearn, business development manager at Total Logistics, said: “Research has shown that the vast majority (68%) of businesses delivering goods into London, and the other cities staging Olympic events this summer, are not fully prepared for the likely disruption to normal supply chain routes these events will create. We wanted to help organisations to rapidly assess their operational readiness, which is why we developed our online tool. This will help logistics and transport managers to consider some of the key challenges they face in 2012”.
