Reefer container manufacturing expansion in India

New Delhi: Indicon Logistics, a subsiduary of Karam Chand Thapar & Bros, is expanding its container manufacturing capacity in India to produce 30,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) containers a annually, including temperature-controlled boxes.

Varun Thapar, director, Indicon Logistics, says: “In the first phase of operations, which entails container manufacture and container leasing, we are looking to invest about USD 20 million. We have already commissioned our first green-field facility that is the single largest container manufacturing factory in India today.”

The company has a manufacturing facility in Ranchi, Jharkhand and is India’s largest container manufacturing unit in terms of installed capacity.

It builds standard ISO boxes and specialized containers including refrigerated boxes. It has sandwich panel technology capable of producing insulated panels made of GRP, stainless steel, and aluminium.

The company also provides container rental services in India under its Kargatact brand.

Indicon plans several more manufacturing facilities in India to take advantage of the growing demand in the logistics sector, which is currently valued at US$100b, and is estimated to grow 20% over the next three years.
