Rental firm Hireco’s expansion bucks market trend

Belfast, Northern Ireland: Hireco is bucking the general trend in the trailer rental market with the purchase of 40 new single-temperature trailers from Schmitz Cargobull.

The firm claims that few rental companies are investing in new equipment. The new reefers have already been earmarked for customers on long-term rental deals in the UK and Ireland. The company expects to add a further 55 single and multi-temperature units scheduled for delivery from September.

James Smith, managing director of Hireco, says: “We grow our fleet according to what customers want and for that reason 80% of our reefer fleet is now Schmitz Cargobull. The current economic climate means many rental firms are not investing in new trailers, whereas we see the real long-term value for both our own business and our clients.”

The new trailers will take the Hireco fleet close to its goal of 5,000. The firm has 4,500 trailers operating in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

“As a supplier to major supermarkets and leading brands we also have to consider growing environmental concerns; the green credentials of Schmitz technology certainly lives up to the expectations of these customers. We understand that 99 per cent of the materials used in the production of the trailers are recyclable.”

Each of the trailers will be fitted with Thermo King SLX-200 temperature control systems and are covered by a maintenance package offered by Hireco.
