Marseille, France: A new 200,000-sq metre multimodal logistics park is planned for the port of Marseille in Southern France. It will be developed over the next five years and will be located less than 15 km from the existing Fos freight container terminals.
Construction could begin early next year. There will a strong emphasis on building temperature-controlled warehousing. The logistics park will also be equipped with a rail link as rail freight is a strong priority for European transport.
“This project probably reflects growing confidence in Marseille on the part of port users and investors, as well as being recognition of the strategic position of the port as a distribution hub for markets in southern Europe,” a Port of Marseille Authority (GPMM) spokesperson told IFW magazine.
“Our aim is to add more warehousing every year in order to accommodate new traffic coming into the Fos box terminals.”
