Spar UK and Oakland International win environmental award

London: Spar UK and Oakland International won the Environmental Contribution Award at the European Supply Chain Excellence Awards in the category of Contribution to Environmental Improvement: Climate Change.

They were presented with the award in a ceremony held at the London Hilton Park Lane on Tuesday 6 November 2012.

Spar UK and Oakland International have been working together on the project for three years. It has reduced Spar’s overall carbon footprint and helped improve freshness and availability of store product as well as reducing wastage.

Vinesh Patel, Spar UK supply chain controller, said: “In the three years since we launched our consolidation scheme, we have been able to deliver exceptional environmental results in areas such as improving freshness and availability of product, as well as a reduction in waste and the amount of vehicles going into depots.”

An award winning partnership, the scheme demonstrates carbon reduction is achievable through improved supply chain efficiencies, whilst delivering reduced wastage as well as helping lead the way in sustainability.

The finalists in the category included Highland Spring with The Russell Group, Marks and Spencer with Damco UK Ltd, NHS Supply Chain, PHS Datashred, Speedy Services, Vodafone.
