Welwyn Garden City, UK: High demand for fresh produce helped increase Tesco’s food sales in the last quarter.
Tesco reported a 5.1% jump in food sales in the 13 weeks to 25 May.
The retailer said that “fresh volumes were particularly strong, supported by investment in the fresh proposition”.
Tesco chief executive Ken Murphy said: “We’ve continued to build momentum in the business, with strong volume growth across the UK, Republic of Ireland and central Europe supported by easing inflation.”
Murphy is optimistic about the rest of the year.
“Following another strong quarter, we’re pleased to reiterate our guidance for the full year, with sales trends in line with our expectations and the business well-positioned for the months ahead.”
