Voluntary code for carbon reduction in retail sector

London, UK: The Carbon Trust has joined forces with the British Refrigeration Association (BRA) and the Institute of Refrigeration (IoR) to finalise a voluntary code of conduct designed to help reduce carbon emissions in retail refrigeration in the UK. The code will be launched at the end of June.

Earlier studies from the Carbon Trust suggested that commercial refrigeration in supermarkets and convenience stores accounts for a significant amount of CO2 annually through direct and indirect carbon emissions.

The main objectives of the code are to develop best practice advice for carbon reduction in the retail refrigeration sector and to provide a framework that encourages all parts of the industry to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions of commercial refrigeration systems.
