143 kW CO₂ Blast Freezer Installation for Premium Ice Cream Production

Project Overview

A fast-growing premium ice cream and mochi manufacturer at Park Royal needed a powerful new blast freezer to keep up with rising demand. As production increased, the business required a freezing system capable of locking in product quality quickly and consistently, while also supporting its environmental goals.

To meet this need, Hubbard supplied a 143 kW CO₂ industrial blast freezer system designed specifically for high-volume, low-temperature food production. The system is built to deliver reliable performance at extremely low temperatures, ensuring every batch leaves the freezer at the right standard.

The Solution

Hubbard provided a fully housed CO₂ refrigeration pack, designed for outdoor installation. By supplying the equipment in a purpose-built enclosure, installation was streamlined and disruption to the factory kept to a minimum.

The new blast freezer operates at -43°C, allowing products to be frozen rapidly. Fast freezing is essential in ice cream production, as it helps preserve texture, taste and overall quality. The system was carefully designed to:

·      Deliver consistent ultra-low temperatures.

·      Handle high production volumes.

·      Operate efficiently even during quieter production periods.

·      Provide built-in heat recovery for improved energy use.

Advanced controls continuously monitor and adjust performance, ensuring the freezer responds automatically to changing demand without wasting energy.

Why CO₂ Refrigeration?

The system uses CO₂ (R744) as the refrigerant. This natural refrigerant has an extremely low global warming potential and is fully compliant with current and future F-Gas regulations. For the client, this means:

·      A more environmentally responsible solution.

·      Long-term protection against refrigerant phase-down changes.

·      Excellent performance for low-temperature applications such as blast freezing.

Designed for Performance and Serviceability

The housed unit was built with practicality in mind.

·      Weather-protected enclosure for external siting.

·      Easy access for servicing and maintenance.

·      Low noise levels to suit the surrounding area.

·      Compact footprint for efficient use of space.

The system also includes heat recovery capability, allowing waste heat generated during refrigeration to be reused elsewhere on site, helping to reduce overall energy consumption.

The Outcome

The completed installation now provides the manufacturer with:

·      Reliable, rapid freezing to protect product quality.

·      Increased capacity to support business growth.

·      Improved energy efficiency.

·      A sustainable refrigeration solution aligned with environmental commitments.

With the new 143 kW CO₂ blast freezer in place, the Park Royal facility is well equipped to support continued expansion while maintaining the high standards expected of a premium ice cream producer.
