2023: time for navigating challenges and seeking opportunities

Reading, UK: The year ahead will be challenging, not least with an energy crisis playing out, says Shane Brennan, chief executive, Cold Chain Federation.

In an overview of the federation’s year ahead he said: “As ever the Cold Chain Federation will be tackling the cold chain’s biggest issues throughout the year. The most pressing concern as we start 2023 is how the energy crisis will play out and the level of Government support that will be available to cold chain operators beyond the current Energy Bill Relief Scheme, which is due to end on 31st March.

“The coming months will also be a decisive period for the future of the Climate Change Agreements scheme which has been such a success in our industry, and later in the year we will ensure the cold chain voice is heard as new processes for imports from the EU are developed.

“As well as confronting the immediate issues your federation has a crucial role in longer-term interests too, identifying future challenges and exploring future opportunities to carve out advantages and strengthen your business. The resilience of our industry in the decades to come depends on decisions and action today regarding skills and training, energy efficiency and climate resilience, responding to changing consumer behaviour and preparing for the economic twists and turns to come. We will be with you every step of the way.

“In 2023 the Cold Chain Federation will be seeking to influence government decisions, supplying CCF members with exclusive data and advice, and creating more opportunities than ever before to meet, discuss, debate and interact. Our Cold Chain Climate Summit and Sustainability Awards are taking place at The Slate, Warwick Conferences, in March. Cold Chain Federation members can meet with key politicians at our parliamentary reception in May, our Summer Party and Cold Chain Cup will take place in July and I am already looking forward to the cold chain’s definitive conference Cold Chain Live! in September, this year in Liverpool.

“We will of course continue to hold our regular online seminars on our industry’s hot topics throughout the year. Please do contact the team at info@coldchainfederation.org.uk with any requests, queries or comments.”
