Chineham, Hampshire, UK: Gist is launching a degree apprenticeship scheme to “create business leaders of the future”.
In September 2020, Gist will take five recruits to its management apprenticeship scheme for A-Level school leavers looking to develop their career as business leaders.
Gist has partnered with Nottingham Trent University to offer the four-year Level 6 Leadership and Management Apprenticeship. The five apprentices will be based at Gist’s head office in Chineham, Hampshire, and will study as distance learning students, visiting the university every eight weeks for lectures. The apprentices will spend time on placements across the business in years one to three and move into role in year four, before graduating with a BA Hons in Leadership and Management.
The scheme is one of only a handful available in the sector, bringing together the best of higher education and vocational training. Gist apprentices will be paid to learn while working in an exciting industry and emerge with an excellent degree, the company says.
Lynn Brown, HR director, Gist said: the company has recruited apprentices for some years and attracts high-calibre school leavers to its schemes. “The next logical step was to create a scheme that develops Gist’s next generation of professional managers,” she said.
“This is an excellent alternative for bright school-leavers who want a career but don’t want to go down the traditional university route. And from Gist’s point of view, it encourages diversity by opening up new opportunities to young people.
“We’ve been impressed with the high level of interest and we’re now in the process of selecting the five apprentices who’ll be welcomed into Gist in September.”
Gist will continue to offer apprenticeships in engineering and maintenance, project management and software development and its internal management development programme.
