Almost half of UK lorries parked says RHA

Peterborough, UK: The Road Haulage Association believes that nearly 50% of trucks are parked as a result of the coronavirus.

The RHA’s managing director of policy and public affairs, Rod McKenzie, said: “46% of the UK truck fleet is now parked up through lack of work and many drivers are on furlough.”

He said that the lack of both cash flow and speed of accessing government support funds, such as the Covid-19 help scheme, means that “many truck operators will go out of business.”

The RHA estimate of 46% seems to be confirmed in a Tweet from Chiltern Distribution.

“We may have parked up 50% of our fleet for the time being – but that doesn’t mean they aren’t spotless and lined up ready for work,” Chiltern said in the Tweet.
