Dover, UK: Fears over port congestion has prompted moves to fast track a limited number of trucks at ports carrying certain perishable foods from 1 January.
The issue was discussed on Friday at a meeting of the Kent Resilience Forum of emergency services, officials and businesses, according to a BBC report today.
The BBC said it has seen a presentation to fast track between 70 and 100 lorries a day of live and fresh sea food, often transported from Scotland to French restaurants, and also day old chickens.
It said no other commodities have been added to the list, which has worried other food exporters.
On Thursday, queues formed on Dover port’s approach roads causing widespread disruption locally.
