London, UK: The British Frozen Food Federation has launched a online benchmark platform for its members.
Members can anonymously add accident figures and get detailed reports to help manage health and safety.
The reports highlight issues by accident type and provide a comparison with others in the same sector.
Simon Brentnall, head of health and safety at the federation, says: “Over the last 16 years we have been supporting our members by collating their accident data with the aim of reducing injuries within the industry.
“This unique tool enables our members to benchmark themselves against each other. Whether food producers, wholesalers or logistics service providers, the data gives those managing health & safety a gauge of how well they are doing and where improvements can be made.”
“In managing health & safety it is important to monitor both proactive (leading) and reactive (lagging) indicators to establish how well your organisation doing; it is crucial that these comparisons are made. What makes this data so unique is that it relates directly to our industry being food production, storage and transportation. Data which is currently available in the public domain relates to the whole of manufacturing, storage and transport industries, and is therefore somewhat diluted,” he says.
