Harrisons Transport orders five more Volvo FH tractors

Preston, UK: Harrisons Transport has five new Volvo FH 460 tractors. Two will be paired with refrigerated trailers with the other three used for container work.

The order was placed with Thomas Hardie Commercials after the first Volvos acquired in 2019 averaged 11mpg.

Lee Harrison, owner, Harrisons Transport, said: “The fuel returns we’ve seen from these Volvo turbo compound engines is very good. We originally took on eight back in 2019 and they’ve averaged around 11mpg, which we are very happy with.

“We work our trucks hard; the three on container duties will be covering around 130,000 km each year, and the two pulling reefers will be more towards 200,000 km per year with the drivers working four days on, four days off.”

The tractors have Volvo’s I-Save package designed to perform best in long-haul operations. As well as the turbo compound engine, the trucks use Volvo’s I-See predictive cruise control, which analyses and adapts to gradients in the road ahead – plus I-Cruise with I-Roll, which adjusts speed to get the most economic fuel consumption.

The five new trucks – all fleet additions – have Volvo Gold Contracts with servicing and maintenance to be carried out at Thomas Hardie Commercials’ Preston depot.
