Moran Logistics uses gas power on Lidl contract

Peterborough, UK: Moran Logistics is to use 15 compressed natural gas powered Scania tractors on a Lidl contract.

The new Scanias are on order from Keltruck and will be delivered during 2023. The trucks will join two CNG-powered Scania 410bhp, 4×2s that entered service in 2021.

The move to gas power follows demands from Lidl for its hauliers to be more environmentally friendly.

Dean Roberts, general manager, Moran Logistics, said CNG-powered trucks suit the Lidl contract while the fuel infrastructure near Lidl locations.

Moran’s CNG tractors are used solely for refrigerated transport and have Ecogen fridges supplied by Hultsteins. Ecogen is a truck-powered hydraulic generator that provides electrical power to the fridge via the standby socket.

“More customers are looking for their logistics partners to demonstrate that they are taking responsibility for the elements under their control within the supply chain,” Roberts said.

“At Moran Logistics we are committed to look for efficiencies throughout our entire operation, to help reduce our carbon footprint, whilst maintaining the highest delivery standards. Efficient, renewable energy vehicles support this green policy.”
