Carrier’s next-generation truck refrigeration

Carrier will debut its all-new, all-electric Pulsor fridge and its newest trailer unit, the Vector HE 17 at the IAA show in Hanover in September.

Pulsor E-Cool for electric vehicles
Carrier Transicold’s Pulsor E-Cool operates directly from the high voltage DC current generated by batteries powering electric light commercial vehicles. Carrier’s original Pulsor, launched in 2012, was the first unit for light commercial vehicles to harness the electrification potential of the company’s E-Drive technology. In a vehicle with an internal combustion engine, the legacy system requires a generator to run on electric power. The new Pulsor E-Cool takes power from the electric vehicle’s own battery system.

The Pulsor E-Cool means the refrigeration unit operates without the need of an additional battery pack or a voltage converter

“The development of the Pulsor E-Cool means we can operate the refrigeration unit without the need of an additional battery pack or a voltage converter,” Victor Calvo, vice president, Carrier Transicold, said. Carrier’s E-Drive technology – first developed for the Vector trailer fridges in 1999 – removes the traditional mechanical transmissions found in belt-driven refrigeration systems and instead transforms the engine power into electricity to drive a variable speed compressor, reducing the risk of refrigerant leaks and making it ideal to operate with batteries, Carrier says.

“Carrier Transicold’s Pulsor range is already an ideal fit for urban delivery fleets that make frequent stops with multiple door openings. Now, the Pulsor E-Cool will help the urban logistics players that are increasingly turning toward battery-powered vehicles continue to maintain temperature integrity throughout the delivery cycle – even when working in congested city centres,” Carrier says.

Carrier’s next-generation trailer fridge
Carrier’s newest temperature-controlled trailer unit, the Vector HE 17 has variable frequency drive technology combined with Carrier’s E-Drive all-electric technology, to achieving best-in-class total cost of ownership. The new Vector HE 17, available in 2023. will offer customers greater refrigeration capacity output at above 16kW and best-in-class fuel consumption, Carrier says.

“The Vector HE 17 enhances our range of high efficiency trailer systems, complementing the proven entry-tier Vector S 15 and flagship Vector HE 19 also being compatible with our all-electric, autonomous Vector E-Cool unit,” said Victor Calvo, vice president, Carrier Transicold.

“Its arrival ensures all Carrier Transicold customers have access to more powerful, efficient, sustainable trailer technology that best fits their operational and environmental needs.” The Vector HE 17 will be available in PIEK (city version) and silent variants, offering improved sound performance over the standard unit, making it ideal for long haul and urban operations. The unit has telematics compatible with Carrier Transicold’s Lynx Fleet digital system.

Carrier at IAA Germany
Carrier will use the IAA show in Hanover, Germany in September to demonstrate its “commitment to a sustainable future” with next-generation temperature-controlled transport refrigeration systems. The focus is on electrification to decarbonise the cold chain.

Carrier Transicold will also showcase the new engineless Syberia 14 extending the existing range. This nosemount solution has been designed to get the most of its E-Drive technology. It has a cooling capacity of up to 14kW in multi-temperature application, a first in road transport refrigeration, Carrier says. Also in Hanover will be the company’s latest Supra HE range, and Xarios 8 unit.
