Hanover, Germany: Orbcomm is to provide its telematics systems to transport fridge maker Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Transport Europe.
Mitsubishi says the move will provide its “customers with immediate access to reefer data to improve efficiency, streamline maintenance processes and reduce environmental footprint”.
Mitsubishi will install Orbcomm’s next-generation temperature monitoring on its new, all-electric reefer units. Users can access location and operational status data from their refrigerated trailers immediately through the Orbcomm platform with no aftermarket installation required.
“Maintenance crews can reefer usage data, automated alerts, alarms and remote control to allow for quick corrective action to stay on top of reefer health, improve maintenance scheduling and reduce the risk of costly, on-the-road breakdowns”, says Mitsubishi. By integrating data more efficiently with new interfaces, customers can enable faster, real-time temperature monitoring, improve fuel efficiency, achieve compliance and reduce their environmental footprint, the company says,
In addition, Mitsubishi will offer Orbcomm’s legacy and next-generation temperature monitoring as aftermarket options to retrofit select reefer models in the field. Mitsubishi plans to expand Orbcomm’s telematics to work with additional reefer models in the coming months.
