Leeds, UK: German supermarket discount retailer Lidl is planning to build a 580,000ft² regional distribution centre (RDC) in Leeds to handle chilled, frozen and ambient goods.
The RDC will store and distribute fresh produce and non-food goods to supermarkets across Yorkshire. Lidl made the decision to build a distribution centre in Leeds following a review of its distribution network.
The warehouse will have 20m eaves as well as 108 dock loading doors and HGV spaces – 25 unsecured and 75 secured. The building will incorporate a number of sustainability features including LED lighting and PIR lighting controls, as well as waste heat recovery from roof-mounted condensers to heat offices and water reduction measures.
In the latest development Lidl lodged a reserved matters application to Leeds Council for the site on the 34.6-acre site known as Plot E at 62 Leeds. Reserved matters is a type of planning application that follows an approved outline application. The aim of reserved matters in planning permission is to secure the outstanding details that were not included within an outline application.
