NewCold opens new US site

Lebanon, Indiana, USA: NewCold opened its automated cold store in Lebanon, Indiana, yesterday. The $300m site is among the largest in the world.

“We believe this facility sets a new benchmark for our industry,” said Bram Hage, chief executive, NewCold. NewCold aims to make its warehouses increasingly grid-independent, using their own power generated from a variety of sources, including renewables. NewCold’s warehouses are about 50% more energy efficient than traditional warehouses, the company says.

Phase one of Lebanon has been operational for almost a year with a capacity of 100,700 industrial pallet positions: construction of phase two at NewCold Lebanon is underway and will see its capacity double to over 200,000 industrial pallet positions.

The Lebanon site serves some of the largest food producers in the world. The efficiency of the operation and location mean there’s potential for further expansion, bringing even more economic uplift to the area, NewCold said.

Phase two expansion of the Lebanon site is expected to be operational in summer 2024.
