Morrisons warehouse staff in Cheshire and Wakefield to strike

Bradford, UK: Warehouse workers at Morrisons’ Cheshire and Wakefield are poised to strike on six days over May and June because of changes to their pensions, according to the Unite union.

The move follows a ballot where members voted “overwhelmingly” for industrial action.

Staff, which include warehouse stock controllers, cooks and admin staff, are set to walk out first on 23-26 May, with the second round of strike action scheduled for 13-16 June.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said it came after Morrisons had forced “unmerited” changes to pension contributions that would leave members around £500 a year worse off.

Other issues in dispute include the introduction of a new “pick rate” which dictates the speed items must be packed from shelves. Unite national officer Adrian Jones said Morrisons had “refused to negotiate”.
