Cold Chain Federation members DFDS, a leading logistics and shipping company, has signed a new five-year, multimillion Euro contract with Nomad Foods, Europe’s largest frozen food company and owner of well-known brands such as Birds Eye, Goodfella’s, Aunt Bessie’s, iglo and Findus. This partnership marks a significant milestone in the companies’ shared growth ambition and commitment to streamlining supply chains.
The new agreement consolidates several individual contracts between DFDS and various Nomad Foods subsidiaries, establishing DFDS and Nomad Foods as long-term partners. The collaboration began in 2018 when DFDS secured a tender with Birds Eye for transportation and distribution services in the UK market and grew stronger in 2023 when DFDS acquired McBurney Transport Group, which had been partnering with Birds Eye since 2003.
This acquisition more than doubled DFDS’s volume with Nomad Foods, enhancing their warehousing and distribution capabilities.
“We are proud to have collaborated with Nomad Foods for over two decades, developing bespoke operational solutions that have driven organic growth for both companies. With this extended partnership we work with Nomad Foods to improve their supply chain, while emphasising low emission initiatives, keeping both businesses focused on continuous improvement,” said Matt O’Dell, DFDS, Managing Director, England.
One strategic agreement and shared vision
The aim is to ensure seamless operations and continuous improvement and with the new contract consolidating transport, customs, and logistics services under one strategic agreement, the partnership has the foundation to deliver this.
DFDS and Nomad Foods are committed to exploring sustainable solutions to minimise the environmental impact of their operations. Initiatives include using solar-panelled trailers, double-deck trailers, and alternative fuel transport solutions.
Nomad Foods’ Group Logistics Director, Simon Stokoe, said: “This multimillion Euro agreement with DFDS is testament to the long-standing history between our two companies, our brands and the trusted services that have been provided to us across the years. Bringing everything together, underpinned by a shared mission for more sustainable transportation and supply chain efficiencies, makes good business sense. We look forward to achieving great things with DFDS through this partnership over the next five years.”
