Constellation Cold Logistics has become the first cold chain logistics company globally to have both its near-term and net-zero carbon emission reduction targets officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
The validation marks an important milestone in Constellation’s sustainability journey and provides independent assurance that the company has a credible, science-based roadmap to support its ambition of reaching Net Zero by 2050.
Near-term targets focus on reducing emissions over the next ten years by 2035, while net zero targets require companies to take immediate action alongside implementing long-term strategies designed to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.
The Science Based Targets initiative is widely recognised as the global benchmark for corporate climate targets. Its validation confirms that a company’s emissions reduction plans are aligned with the latest climate science and the level of action required to support global efforts to limit climate change.
A credible roadmap for the future
Temperature-controlled warehousing is inherently energy-intensive, bringing with it a responsibility to continually find new ways to reduce energy consumption and emissions. Across its network, Constellation is addressing this challenge by investing in new technologies, renewable energy, and improvements to everyday operations.

Turning ambition into action
We procure renewable electricity across our network, and our Swedish and Irish sites are already operating on 100% renewable electricity. Through our Energy Management Programme, every site is continually working to reduce energy consumption. This includes investment in the latest refrigeration technologies, alongside practical operational improvements and educating our teams on best practices for energy efficiency.
Constellation established NH3 (ammonia) as its refrigerant of choice across the network. With an Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) of zero and a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of zero, ammonia offers significant environmental advantages and forms an important part of the company’s approach to reducing the impact of its refrigeration operations.
During 2026, the company has focused on rolling out smart refrigeration controls to help ensure equipment operates at peak efficiency. We are also investing in power factor correction and addressing harmonic distortion to maintain power quality as increasingly sophisticated and connected technologies are introduced across its sites.
Accelerating renewable energy generation
Constellation is also working to generate as much of its remaining energy requirement as possible through on-site renewable energy. This summer alone, we completed new rooftop solar installations at our facilities in Finglas, Dublin, and Tønsberg, Norway, further expanding our investment in self-generated renewable electricity. These projects bring the total number of Constellation facilities with solar installations to 17.
Building sustainability into future growth
All our new developments are being designed to industry-leading sustainability standards, including DGNB Gold for the company’s greenfield development in Aarhus, Denmark, and BREEAM Excellent for the Wolverhampton expansion in the UK and the Gothenburg greenfield development.
Environmental considerations begin at the earliest stages of project design. Alongside energy efficiency and carbon reduction, Constellation considers employee wellbeing and the impact its facilities have on surrounding communities and the wider environment.
