Cabotage changes confirmed

London, UK: The Department for Transport has confirmed that it is amending cabotage rules until 30 April 2022 so that non-UK drivers can make unlimited drops in the UK over two weeks.

The change, contained in a DfT policy paper, follows a one-week consultation on the proposals.

Foreign operators that come into the country laden with goods can now pick up and drop off goods an unlimited number of times for two weeks before they return home. Currently hauliers from the EU can only make up to two cabotage trips within seven days.

However, the Road Haulage Association, which opposed the move on the grounds that cabotage could “sabotage our industry”, is not impressed by the measure.

An RHA spokesman Tweeted: “The government confirms unlimited cabotage movements in the UK (over a 14-day period), until 30 April 22, despite RHA and industry opposition. Bad news for UK hauliers and drivers.”
