Halton Hills, Ontario, Canada: Conestoga Cold Storage, a temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics company, is building a greenfield site in Halton Hills, Ontario, “set to become one of the largest cold storage facilities in the world”, it says.
The new site will have “cutting-edge technology, sustainable practices, and a capacity of over 96m cubic feet [2.7m cubic metres]”and be over 150 ft [47 metres] high.
Conestoga says that with the first phase of the project scheduled to open its doors in the fourth quarter of 2024, the site will provide automation and advanced logistics systems to “provide unparalleled efficiency and accuracy in cold storage management”. The site has been designed to minimise its environmental impact, incorporating energy-efficient technologies, advanced waste management systems, and renewable energy sources.
“This expansion represents a significant milestone for Conestoga Cold Storage,” said Gavin Sargeant, vice president, at Conestoga Cold Storage. “We are proud to announce the construction of this world-class facility, which will not only solidify our position as an industry leader but also allow us to meet the growing demand for cold storage solutions.”
“For five decades we have been committed to building a stronger and more agile cold chain in Canada,” said Greg Laurin, president and chief executive. “As the food sector has grown in size and complexity, Conestoga Cold Storage has grown along with it. We look forward to continuing the tradition of bringing cutting-edge, innovative solutions to the frozen food logistics industry now and into the future.”
