Central Co-op closes Leicester chilled distribution centre

Leicester, UK: Central Co-op closed its three distribution operations in Leicester at the weekend, including a chilled food and drink distribution centre.

The society, which announced the changes early last year, is moving operations to Co-op Group-managed distribution network LIDIA. This is a “national collective distribution and logistics operation” which already serves more than 4,000 stores with 13 distribution centres and is owned by the Manchester-based Co-op Group Ltd.

Central Co-op said it had ‘outgrown’ its current distribution facilities in Leicester. The final deliveries were made from Central Co-op England’s three warehouses, including the chilled site, on March 23.

A spokesperson for the Central Co-op said: “We’d like to thank all of our colleagues who have supported us at our three distribution centres for their hard work, dedication and commitment to serve our Society.”
