Chiltern Distribution’s founder Paul Jackson retires

Peterborough, UK: Chiltern Distribution founder Paul Jackson is retiring from the company today (25 February) after nearly 30 years.

Managing director Jackson started Chiltern Cold Storage Group in 1993. In late 2018 Chiltern Distribution was formed from the distribution and pharmaceutical sections of the business.

Jackson has been outspoken about the effects of Brexit on Chiltern, telling the Financial Times that the company had given up about 80% of its EU business – or roughly 10% of Chiltern’s total pre-Brexit trade.

Jackson said: “We just did the maths and realised we couldn’t make it pay, so we’ve almost completely given up loads to France, Belgium and the Netherlands.”

He regularly drove one of the company’s 50 temperature-controlled trucks to mainland Europe. Two years ago Chlltern added its 100th trailer to its fleet – built by Gray & Adams.

Jackson has also played a key role in shaping the future direction of the Cold Chain Federation.
