London, UK: The All-Party Parliamentary Group for freight and logistics, re-established following the general election, will address issues such as the road to net zero and inadequate driver facilities over the next year.
Lilian Greenwood, the minister for the Future of Roads, told attendees at the first meeting that road freight and logistics are central to the government’s plans to grow the economy.
Over the next 12 months, the group’s sessions will focus on driver facilities, international issues, the road to net zero and diversity in the sector. The group will also launch a new freight crime report and a driver welfare campaign.
RHA public affairs manager Ferdy Willans said: “Since the general election we have worked hard to raise the profile of our sector with new MPs. We are therefore delighted that the APPG for Freight and Logistics’ inaugural meeting was so popular and a real indication that the importance of our sector is recognised by so many in Westminster.
“It was also useful for APPG members to hear from minister Greenwood who highlighted the impact the sector will have on the government’s plans for growth as well as outlining the shared challenges that we face in the sector including the lack of good quality facilities, freight crime and insolvencies.”
